parchment stool made out of a sheet of steel drapes like fabric

Essesi and Saul Kim Studio Craft Parchment Stool

The Parchment Stool is crafted from a single sheet of steel, carefully bent to evoke the fluidity of draped fabric. Essesi collaborates with Saul Kim Studio on the chair design. Wooden cylinders are embedded within the metal stool’s folds, establishing a harmonious structural and material connection.

Steel Parchment Stool resembles draped fabric

The wooden elements of the Parchment Stool appear to lift the steel, mimicking the delicate tension of an unfurling scroll. The smooth, continuous surface enhances this visual effect. The collaborative process between designer Alberto Essesi and architect Saul Kim involved testing steel’s structural integrity across various thicknesses to achieve strength and elegance.
